Our Purpose
Reimagining mathematical education for the 21st century
1The Challenge
Despite technological advances, mathematical education remains stagnant. Many students struggle with abstract concepts, developing "math anxiety" that follows them into adulthood. Current educational approaches often prioritize memorization over understanding, leaving students unable to apply knowledge to real-world problems and unprepared for future careers in STEM fields.
2Our Vision
We envision a world where every student discovers the beauty and practical power of mathematics. Where learning is driven by curiosity rather than obligation, and where students develop confidence in their analytical abilities. We strive for educational equity where all students—regardless of zip code or socioeconomic status—have access to exceptional mathematical education that prepares them for 21st century challenges.
3Our Approach
Inspired by Zhores Alferov's commitment to educational innovation, we've developed a methodology that transforms how mathematics is taught and experienced. Our approach combines traditional mathematical rigor with modern, contextual learning experiences that connect abstract concepts to tangible applications. We emphasize understanding over memorization, problem-solving over procedure, and collaboration over competition.
"Mathematics reveals hidden patterns that help us understand the world around us. The educational system must nurture this powerful tool of discovery in every student."
— Zhores Alferov, Nobel Laureate in Physics

About Zhores Alferov
The inspiring physicist behind our institute
Zhores Alferov (1930-2019) was a renowned Soviet and Russian physicist who received the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics for developing semiconductor heterostructures used in high-speed electronics and optoelectronics.
Beyond his scientific achievements, Alferov was a passionate advocate for education, believing that scientific knowledge should be accessible to all. He founded the St. Petersburg Academic University with the goal of integrating research and education to nurture future scientists.
Our institute continues his legacy by promoting educational initiatives that combine scientific rigor with accessibility, working to ensure that quality education reaches students regardless of their background or resources.
